Perioral Dermatitis Skincare

Our founder has perioral dermatitis, a very common facial condition with bumps, redness, irritation, or flaking around the nose and mouth. After years of frustration, she formulated skincare for perioral dermatitis to help her own skin, which finally soothed and calmed her inflammation, and has now helped thousands of others.

FAQs

Can I heal perioral dermatitis overnight?

Sadly, no. But you can make a huge difference in your skin by taking a few simple steps:

  1. Start using Black Clay Facial Soap and Purely Simple Face Cream, and try to use only these two products on your skin for at least two weeks. (Sample sizes of these products are available if you want to try them before ordering a full size!) If your skin is inflamed or sensitive, try to make the transition to the new products slowly and deliberately.
  2. Remove sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate and synthetic fragrance from your life completely. We can't emphasize enough how important this step is for long term healing of perioral dermatitis.
  3. Make sure your toothpaste is fluoride-free and sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate-free. We have lots of specific brand recommendations here.
Can steroid creams help perioral dermatitis?

Many dermatologists recommend topical steroid creams for perioral dermatitis, which can temporarily make things better. Unfortunately, many people have a rebound reaction when stopping steroid creams, often referred to as Topical Steroid Withdrawal, which can cause symptoms worse than the original dermatitis. We recommend using the slow and steady approach outlined in this article rather than looking for quick, temporary relief with steroids.

Is perioral dermatitis caused by one thing?

Occasionally, perioral dermatitis is caused by one thing, like fluoride toothpaste, steroid creams, or pregnancy. More often, however, it is caused by a combination of factors that is unique to every person, making it more important to support your skin from as many angles as possible. We've outlined the first six steps you should take when trying to heal your skin from perioral dermatitis here, and we are happy to help anytime—just email us at help@osmiaskincare.mom.

Perioral Dermatitis Skincare

Our founder, Sarah Villafranco, MD, developed perioral dermatitis when she was in her late 30s, and could not find perioral dermatitis skincare that did not make her skin worse. She also found that most brands recommended by dermatologists contained ingredients like parabens, phthalates, and sulfates, that she did not want to use on her skin. So she formulated natural skincare products for perioral dermatitis that soothed her own skin and have now helped many others with perioral dermatitis and facial eczema find relief. Now, Sarah's skin has been healthy for 15 years thanks to the perioral dermatitis skincare products from Osmia, and the associated lifestyle changes that she recommends to support skin struggling with perioral dermatitis.
