FAQs

What are the benefits of using body soap bars over liquid soap?

Bar soap does not contain chemical detergents like sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate, and does not require a preservative. Bar soap naturally contains glycerin, which is very moisturizing for your skin, so it's often less drying than body wash. Bar soap does not come in a plastic bottle like body wash does, and Osmia body soap comes in FSC-certified, recyclable paper cartons.

How long does a body soap bar typically last, and what's the best way to travel with bar soap?

If kept on a soap saver, our body bar soaps last 1-2 months for most people. Bar soap will get soggy if you keep it in a dish that collects water, and soggy soap does not last as long! When you travel, use our Bar Soap Travel Bag to keep your bar from getting soggy instead of using a hard plastic case or a plastic bag. You can put your bar soap in our organic cotton bag even if it's still wet from the shower—just give the bag a rinse in fresh water and hang to dry when you get home from your trip!

Do your soap bars contain any harsh chemicals or artificial fragrances?

Our bar soaps contain plant oils, glycerin, essential oils, and natural clays or botanicals. We do not use synthetic fragrance in any of our products. All soap is made with lye, which is sodium hydroxide (bar soap) or potassium hydroxide (liquid soap), but it gets used up in the chemical reaction of soapmaking, so there is no lye left in your finished bar of Osmia soap. Why Switch To Natural Bar Soap?

"Natural bar soap was the first thing I ever made in the world of natural skincare, and it completely changed my opinion of bar soap! I had used commercial bar soaps and found them to be quite drying for my skin, especially living in the mountains of Colorado. But when I made my first bar of handcrafted, cold-process soap and started using it, I realized it was a completely different product than the bars at the grocery store. My dry skin felt soft and moisturized in the shower and for hours after using a bar of the soap I had made—I've never looked back!"
